How to use

Build from the generated plan, not from guesswork.

  1. 1. Upload an image or use the sample preview, then choose how many maps wide and tall the final art should be.
  2. 2. Choose a block palette and compare clean regions with Floyd-Steinberg dithering.
  3. 3. Inspect the numbered 128x128 sections and material list, then replace expensive colors if needed.
  4. 4. Download individual map PNGs or the ZIP, JSON, CSV, and overview PNG before building the flat map art and locking maps in game.

Output guide

Use each output for a different building job.

Overview PNG shows the complete artwork with optional build-grid lines.

Numbered map PNGs and the ZIP split every layout into exact 128x128 sections.

CSV and copied materials show block totals, stacks, remainders, and percentages.

JSON stores every coordinate, block name, and color for custom workflows.

Technical notes

Important Minecraft block-grid details

A single Minecraft map displays 128 by 128 pixels; this planner keeps one generated cell for every map pixel.
The current output is a flat manual-build plan. In-game map colors can still vary with edition, version, biome, water, and height shading.
PNG, ZIP, JSON, and CSV exports do not modify a world save. Direct map.dat and Litematica files require version-specific import workflows.

FAQ

Minecraft Map Art Generator FAQ

How big is one Minecraft map art section?

One map item is 128 by 128 map pixels. A 2x2 layout is 256 by 256 map pixels.

Is map art the same as pixel art?

No. Map art targets the colors and resolution of map items, while pixel art is meant to be seen directly as blocks.

Do I need height shading?

Not for this flat manual-build plan. Height shading can expand the visible color range, but it requires stair-step construction and version-aware map colors.

Can this export map.dat?

No. It exports exact 128x128 section PNGs, a multi-map ZIP, JSON coordinates, CSV materials, and overview PNGs without modifying a Minecraft world save.

Does the image leave my browser?

No. Image reading, resizing, palette matching, previews, and downloads run locally in your browser.

Can Java and Bedrock players use the plan?

Yes for manual flat builds. The coordinate grid, numbered PNGs, and material totals are edition-independent, but the final in-game map colors can differ by edition and version.

What is included in the map ZIP?

The ZIP contains one exact 128x128 PNG for each numbered map section, a CSV material list, and a short layout guide.
